Now this word in Hebrew can be also translated sanctify; a word we use in church. It means to set apart for a specific purpose. We also could use the words "make holy" for the same phrase, for the same word. There is a particular moral aspect to this that comes out when you take this same word and translate it purify, dedicate, First reference of this very word comes in Exo 13:2 "Consecrate to me every firstborn male. The first offspring of every womb among the Israelites belongs to me, whether man or animal." The last plague against Egyptians was the death of the first born sons. God saved first born sons of Israelites from this. God redeemed those who were supposed to die. So they belonged to God. Belong to God – God’s property – for God’s use.
